New Patient
Health Checks
These are to help us plan your medical
care. All new patients are expected to attend for a health check with the practice
nurse within one month of registration.
Five Yearly
Health Checks
For all aged 15-75, ie at 15, 20,
25, 30 etc.
Health
Checks
For all aged over 15 who have not had a check at all in the previous five years.
For your health check please make an appointment with our health care assistant in a general clinic.
Pre-pregnancy
Health Checks
These are offered by the practice
nurses for couples contemplating pregnancy.
Practice
Nurse Asthma Clinics
All asthmatics should make an appointment
in one of these clinics at least annually.
Practice
Nurse Diabetic Clinics
Unless being cared for by the hospital
all diabetics should attend this clinic at the interval specified by your doctor/nurse.
This is usually every six months if your diabetes is well controlled or more frequently
if poorly controlled.
Monitoring
Of Other Long-Term Health Problems
This will include conditions such
as high blood pressure, heart disease etc. They will be monitored by the nurses
primarily in general clinics.
Stop Smoking
Please make a 30 minute appointment
with our health care assistant.
Lifestyle
Advice eg Alcohol, Exercise, Diet
This is offered by the practice nurses
and doctors in their general clinics and surgeries.
Health Promotion
Services To The Housebound
The same services as are offered
in the surgeries are available to housebound patients. These are carried out by
the practice and district nurses.
Pregnancy
Care
Full pregnancy care is offered together
with the community midwife. Postnatal checks are performed in our well child clinics on Fridays as well as the six-week baby checks.
Family Planning
General advice and pill checks are
offered in normal surgeries by all the doctors and in general clinics by all the
practice nurses. For all contraceptive advice and well woman care, there is a
separate well woman and family planning clinic run by Dr Kelley and our
specially trained practice nurses.
Well Woman
Care
All female patients are offered a
cervical smear test together with advice about breast awareness and health checks
at regular intervals. This service is provided by the practice nurses in their
general clinics.
Well Child
(under 5's) Clinic
Immunisations are offered on Tuesday
and Thursday afternoon at Wrafton House only by appointment. Advice and checks
on development and growth checks for all pre-school children are offered at Wrafton
House on a Friday afternoon and at Northdown Road on a Friday morning. Children
who are ill should be brought to a general surgery and not to these clinics.
Immunisations
A full range of travel (see below), influenza
and other vaccinations (some of which are chargeable) is offered at both surgeries. Please make an appointment
with the practice nurse. For travel immunisations this should be at least three
months before the date of travelling.
Immunisations can be arranged with our practice nurses by appointment, ideally two months before departure. Before you meet the nurse we ask you to complete a travel questionnaire. This is available from reception and must be completed at least five working days before you require an appointment for your travel immunisations.
Minor Surgery
Some minor operations are performed
by all the doctors during normal surgery times. Dr Wechselburg runs a minor surgery
clinic, usually twice a month.
Cryotherapy
Clinics
These are run by Dr Constable approximately
every four weeks to treat a variety of skin lesions.
Acupuncture
Dr Wechselberg runs a clinic usually
twice a month for muscular skeletal conditions only (neck pain, shoulder pain,
lower back pain, knee pain and tennis elbow).
Counselling
A confidential counselling service
is offered by the practice after discussion with your doctor or practice nurse.
